Joint Splits
Before choosing a paint as your finish, it should be noted that joint splits are unavoidable on painted wood cabinets and are not a defect or a sign of poor quality. We engineer our doors to minimize joint splits using solid wood or MDF center panels. Because wood naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, there is movement at the seams of the cabinet doors and face frames that will look like the paint is “cracking” at the joints. Joint splits occur wherever there is a joint between pieces of wood with grain running in different directions. Joint splits on mitered doors up to 1/16” are not considered a defect. Joint splits do not typically occur on every joint in a kitchen, but you should expect this to on some of your joints. If you are experiencing this on a larger percent of your kitchen, you may need to adjust your climate control to the proper temperature and humidity settings. You can find recommended settings in our cabinetry care guide.

Glazed Finishes
Glazed finishes are applied by hand and are designed to have an uneven finish. It is common for some edges to appear heavier or lighter than others and this may vary door to door, drawer to drawer and item to item. It is not uncommon to have various doors with light or dark glazing in the same order. These features are common and are not considered to be a defect.
Warped Doors
Due to the natural characteristics, wood will expand and contract over time. Therefore, a small amount of warping can be expected. It is quite common for wood to return to its original form after acclimating to the environment. Doors warped up to a ¼” are not considered to be defective. Moldings and panels warped up to 2” are not considered to be defective. Doors must be hung for at least 90 days in order to acclimate to the environment before a warranty claim may be filed. In many cases, doors that appear to be warped are the result of improper adjustment. Please attempt to adjust your hinges before filing a claim for warped doors.
Color & Grain Variences
Due to natural characteristics found in wood, stained cabinets may vary in color, texture and grain. Varied shading in cabinetry stains are to be expected and are not considered a defect. Replacement parts may vary in their natural color variation from those which were originally supplied to You.

Cleaning
As with any product constructed of wood, a few moments of care and using the steps below can go a long way in keeping your new Cabinets looking their best. A Cabinet has an oven-cured, UV catalyzed finish. The top coat allows for long-lasting durability and beauty. We recommend the following processes should be done once or twice each year or when the product needs attention:
For Routine Care & Cleaning
Spills and excess moisture should be cleaned up immediately. Wipe down the product with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and other particles, then dry promptly with a clean soft cloth.
For More Attention To Grease & Dirt
In order to remove a build-up of grease and dirt add a small amount of a dishwashing soap (i.e., Dawn) to a quart of warm water. Dampen a clean, soft cloth with this solution and wipe down the cabinetry. Use a second clean, soft cloth to remove any and all dampness.
No Furniture Polish or Cleaners
We do not recommend the use of any type of furniture polish or cleaners. Avoid using abrasive cloths, brushes, or pads to clean your cabinetry. These products can affect the appearance and durability of the top coat over time. The use of these products will void the warranty.
Climate Control
The environment of the cabinetry should always be maintained with some type of climate control, even when not occupied. To avoid potential problems we recommend that the cabinetry should be allowed to acclimate to the environment’s temperature for 3 days prior to installation. Cabinetry should not be installed too close to or directly facing air vents and radiant heat sources. It is recommended to maintain the relative humidity at 40% to 50% within the temperature range of 65°-75°F. Variations in humidity and temperature will cause expansion and contraction. When changes are minor, the dimensional response of the wood will be insignificant.
Under normal fluctuations in temperature, quality cabinetry will perform and look beautiful for many years. MK Cabinet Cabinetry’s warranty does not cover damage or other concerns caused by exposure to extremes in temperature or humidity.
